I nodi della memoria.
Concezioni e pratiche della memoria nel periodo borromaico

The theme of memory is currently of great interest in different areas of the human sciences. We live in a historical time dominated by the hypertrophy of the present: the recognition of the importance and of the functions of memory can help us find a balanced relationship with both the past and the future and therefore to re-establish a more human experience of temporality in everyday life.

The memory knots were the mnemotechnical system used by the Incas, to which Federico Borromeo refers in one of his notebooks. The Dies will be introduced by a lecture by Lina Bolzoni, one of the most brilliant exponents of studies on memory and of its relationship with rhetoric, literature and the arts, at national and international level. The works will then be organized into three “knots”: the first dedicated to the great theme of “Memory and Christianity, from Augustine to the Modern Age”; the second to the “Memory in performative and missionary practices”; the third to the “Practices of Memory and Mission: from Europe to the Overseas Worlds”.
