Work has begun to secure the balcony of the Sala Federiciana and the balconies of two other ancient rooms of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana: the Borromeo room (current bookshop) and the Sala della Rosa.
In fact, until now, the second level of these environments was not accessible to Library staff for security reasons, effectively making an invaluable book heritage inaccessible and unavailable for consultation.
Thanks to the funding of the SOS heritage call promoted by Fondazione Cariplo, tracks will be installed at the ceiling level of the bookcases, for the attachment of safety devices (carabiner and harness) necessary for the safe use of the galleries and, at the same time, maintenance will be carried out on their structures.
The works in the Sala Federiciana are planned so that they can be carried out even when the museum is open, without creating inconvenience for the public and in strict compliance with safety regulations.
At the end of the interventions, the librarians, appropriately trained, will have to attach themselves to the lifelines in order to access the galleries and retrieve the volumes requested by the users of the Library reading room.
