Diasporas
in the Near East

For the X Dies Academicus, which will be held in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana on November 4-5 2019, the Class of Near Eastern Studies(CSVO) proposes a theme of great interest not only from the historical and philological point of view, but also from the contemporary one.

Indeed, a wide-ranging analysis of the experience of the “Diasporas in the Near East” may offer valid points of reflection on today’s global and multicultural society. The four Sections of Studies (Arabic, Armenian, Hebrew and Syriac) of the Class analyze, with an eye to ancient history and one to the most recent, the painful vicissitudes of dissemination in countries far from homeland (but also the inheritances and the cultural comparisons that this implies) of Jews and Armenians, of Arabs of different political and religious traditions, of Assyrians and Syriacs of different Christian confessions.
