Illuminated inital letter with the Saints Ambrose and Augustine, from Ambrosian Psalter, 15th century (1420), Biblioteca Ambrosiana, A 109 inf., f. 1r.

Satis episcopaliter me dilexit.
Ambrose and Augustine

On March 26th and 27th there will be the Dies Academicus of the Class of the Ambrosian studies, dedicated this year to a comparison between the two great figures of Ambrose and Augustine.

The title (“Satis episcopaliter me dilexit”) takes up and re-elaborates the sentence with which Augustine himself, in his Confessions (book V, 13) describes the attention with which the bishop of Milan received him, as a true bishop and father, in his pilgrimage in search of the truth. The inaugural lecture (on the evening of March 26), in the presence of the Grand Chancellor of the Academy, the Archbishop of Milan Monsignor Mario Delpini, will be entrusted to the Councilor of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences, the bishop Monsignor Enrico dal Covolo. The following day, various lectures will focus on the figures of the two Fathers from the historical, theological, exegetic and artistic point of view.
At the inauguration of the Dies Monsignor Enrico dal Covolo, Prof. Hartmut Leppin and Dr. Elisabetta Neri will be co-opted as new academics.
