The conference was attended by Marco Ballarini Prefect of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Filippo Del Corno, Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Milan, Stefano Bruno Galli, Councilor for Autonomy and Culture of the Lombardy Region, Anna Rabolini, representing the Rabolini family, Giovanni Gorno Tempini President of Fondazione Fiera Milano, Antonella Ranaldi Superintendent of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan city of Milan, Stefano Boeri curator of the exhibition design, Maurizio Michelozzi director of the restoration team and Alberto Rocca Director of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. The conference ended with a greeting from S.E. Monsignor Mario Delpini.

The masterpiece and the new displaycase, within the newly refurbished room will be visible to the city and to the international public from Wednesday 27 March with the exhibition Il Raffaello dell’Ambrosiana. In principio il cartone.

Fondazione Fiera Milano, official partner of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana for the two-year period 2018-2019, contributes to supporting the promotional activities of Raphael’s Cardboard.

In 2014 the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, through the Fondazione Cardinale Federico Borromeo, started a long and challenging study of the Cartoon, leading to its conservative restoration coordinated by a prestigious Scientific Committee. This committee is composed of the College of Fellows of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana and experts from the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione e Restauro, the Vatican Museums, the Milan Superintendency for the Conservation and Restoration Centre “La Venaria Reale”, with Pinin Brambilla Barcilon as technical consultant, and the collaboration of lecturers from various Italian universities.

The project was wholly supported by the contribution of the company RaMo SpA, at the behest of its Founder, Giuseppe Rabolini.

The restoration of Raphael’s Cartoon was directed and coordinated by Dr. Maurizio Michelozzi, and the work will once again be displayed in its dedicated room, redesigned for the occasion by Stefano Boeri Architetti.
The Cartoon has been mounted in an impressive new display case with a protective plate glass front, made by Goppion Spa.
The layout of the room will incorporate educational and informative panels illustrating the history, technique and restoration of this masterpiece, as well as unique furnishing elements manufactured by Riva 1920 to designs by Stefano Boeri Architetti.
The interactive multimedia support for visitors was created by OLO creative farm.

The exhibition devoted to the Cartoon will be accompanied by a bilingual Italian/English publication (Electa) with texts by Alberto Rocca, Director of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana.

On 6 April 2019, the anniversary of the death of Raphael (April 6 1520), the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana will be open for free to celebrate, together with the city, the masterpiece of the genius from Urbino, a world cultural heritage.
