SOME ASPECTS OF THE RAPHAEL CARTOON RESTORATION AND THE NEW DISPLAY CASE

As we can see, the Cartoon is really large: 8 x 3 meters, but it is actually made up of 220 sheets. It is therefore a monumental but also very fragile work, precisely because it is composed of different parts. Because of its fragility, in the restoration, we proceeded to consolidate it by applying three layers of Japanese paper; each one with a different weight, in order to provide greater solidity to such a delicate work. Another peculiarity is this very large glass; it is the biggest slab in Europe. It is so large that a wide hole had to be opened in the wall in order to introduce it into the room. It is an anti-breakthrough glass, useful to filter the light as well, so as to safeguard the artwork from those ranges that are dangerous for paper and drawing.
